Bulgaria has come through a golden age for archaeological discoveries and now holds Neolithic settlements, Thracian tombs and exuberantly painted medieval churches. Albania's ancient cities at Durrës, Apollonia, Butrint and Byllis sit among mountains and deep blue sea. Rest of Europe Tours: Your Questions Answered

Everywhere in Europe outside our named destinations, including Albania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Malta, Sweden and Denmark.

Only because each has a smaller number of tours than the destinations with pages of their own. Several are among the most rewarding places we travel, precisely because fewer visitors reach them.

Some involve longer journeys and more remote sites, and a few are explicit about being off the beaten track. Each itinerary sets out what it involves, and there are gentler options, including a tour based in Split with Diocletian's Palace at its heart.

Spring and autumn for the Mediterranean and Balkan itineraries, when sites are quieter and the walking is more comfortable. Scandinavian and Baltic tours run through the lighter months.

Archaeological sites mean uneven ground, steps and little shade, and some of these are extensive. Each itinerary carries an activity level of easy, moderate or active so you know what to expect before you book.

Yes, and many guests do. Shared interest does most of the work, and conversation tends to start with whatever you have just seen.
